Graeme McDowell had to go across the pond and south of the border to win his first tournament on the PGA Tour in almost three years.
It was worth it.
McDowell outlasted Jason Bohn and Russell Knox in a three-man playoff with a birdie on the first hole, firing a final-round 66 to pick up 500 FedEx Cup points and $1.116 million.
McDowell almost didn’t need the playoff, going 6-under on the first 13 holes, but have one back on the 16th and parred the rest of the way.
He refound his stroke on the playoff hole, using a 5-iron to graze the lip of the cup, setting up a 3-foot birdie putt for the win.
“I hit as good of a 5-iron as I could hit,” McDowell said.
Derek Fathauer had the lead going into Sunday, but struggled to a 71 after two rounds of 66 and a 65. He only got back to par by birdying No. 18.
