He didn’t win the OHL Classic on Sunday, but Russell Knox is the unlikely leader of the PGA’s FedEx Cup standings after the first month of the season.
Knox, with one win and two top 10 finishes, has 876 points through five events, moving him from third to first in the standings released on Monday.
He jumped ahead of Justin Thomas, who is at 688.
OHL Classic winner Graeme McDowell, playing in his first PGA Tour event of the season, is now seventh in the standings with 500 points for his victory.
The Top 125 players at the end of the PGA Tour regular season qualify for the year-end FedEx Cup, four tournaments worth an increasing amount of money which culminate in a $10 million prize for the overall winner.
Jordan Spieth won the overall title in 2015.
