Brendan Steele took a 1-stroke lead into the final round of the Frys.com Open after shooting a 69 on Saturday.
He’s up by one over Kevin Na and the hard-charging Andrew Loupe. Loupe had five straight birdies early in the round and four more later that round to tie the course record which Steele shot on Thursday with a 63.
Steele is trying to go wire to wire for his second PGA title. He might have run away and hid with the league as he had three different realistic opportunities for eagles, but all three wound up being pars.
It’s been more than 4-1/2 years since Steele’s first PGA Tour win, which came in April of 2011 at the Valero Texas Open, a 1-stroke victory over Kevin Chappell and Charley Hoffman.
