Zach Johnson’s win at the Open Championship Sunday saw him soar 24 spots to No. 7 in the latest FedEx Cup standings.
Through 19 events, Johnson has 1,522 points, moving him ahead of injured Rory McIlroy, who has 1,510 points in eight events.
Jordan Spieth, who finished tied for fourth on Sunday, continues to lead the standings by a wide margin. Spieth has 3,763 points through 19 events, some 1,800 points ahead of No. 2 Jimmy Walker.
To put Spieth’s domination to date in perspective, Walker and No. 3 Bubba Watson have 3,694 points combined, still 69 fewer than Spieth, who also has more Top 10 finishes (12) than those two together (11).
Although neither man won the event, being in the three-way playoff was also very good for Louis Oosthuizen, who surged from 51st to 28th, and Marc Leishman, who jumped from 79th to 46th.
The top 125 men in the final standings qualify for the start of the four-week post-season tournament.
