Hideki Matsuyama has taken over the lead at in the FedEx Cup Standings, surpassing Justin Thomas.
Matsuyama has racked up 1,746 points in nine events this season. Thomas is right behind him with 1,737 points in 10 events.
Reigning No. 1 Dustin Johnson is third with 1,353 points in six events. Canadian Adam Hadwin and American Jordan Spieth round up the top five.
The top 128 players in the final FedEx standings compete in a four-week, post-season competition know as the FedEx Cup for points and prize money. Each week the points are reset and another cut is made until just 30 players remain for the TOUR Championship in Atlanta. The overall points leader wins $10 million.
In nine events this year, Matsuyama has four Top 10 finishes – two wins and two runners-up. Thomas has three wins and five Top 10 finishes in 10 events.
