Daniel Berger and Charley Hoffman combined to shoot 8-under on Friday to take a one-stroke lead at the Franklin Templeton Shootout on Friday in Naples, Fla.
Two strokes off the lead after the first day, Berger and Hoffman completed the modified alternate shot tied for the best score of the game with the teams of Jason Dufner and Brandt Snedeker. Dufner and Snedeker, along with Matt Kuchar and Harris English, are tied for second place, one stroke off the lead.
English and Kuchar, the leaders after Day 1, shot 5-under after a near-record 14-under on Day 1. The course got harder as the format changed for some: Retief Goosen and Danny Lee actually finished at even par. No other pair shot worse than 2-under.
