A new day brought a new trio atop the leader board at the Hero World Challenge; a trio that included world No. 1 Jordan Spieth.
The tournament’s defending champion fired a second-round 66 to reach 11-under, tying him for first with Jimmy Walker and Bill Haas.
After an erratic beginning that saw him 1-over through five holes, Spieth rattled off three straight birdies on the front nine, and was 4-under on the back thanks largely to an eagle 3 on No. 22.
Walker is the only hold over from Thursday’s top of the charts, mixing together seven birdies with two bogeys to shoot a 67. Haas matched Spieth’s 66, and was 6-under through 11 before cooling off.
Three more players – Chris Kirk, Patrick Reed, and Bubba Watson – are a stroke back at 10-under. Both Kirk and Reed shot 65s on Friday.
For the second straight day, 17 of the 18 players in the field are below par, with the exception of Hideki Matsuyama, who is 4-over.
