American Kevin Chappell added a 65 to his opening-round 66 to take a 1-stroke lead at the RSM Classic Friday in Sea Island, Georgia.
Chappell was one of five players to fire a 5-under 65 on the day, using four birdies between holes No. 4 and 10, and an eagle 3 on No. 15 to make up for a bogey three holes prior.
He’s trailed by one stroke by Day 1 leader Kevin Kisner and Sweden’s Freddie Jacobson, each of whom recorded a 67 on Friday.
Jacobson had to finish his first round early Friday morning, and did so in style, notching four birdies on the final six holes.
Graeme McDowell, who won the OHL Classic last week, is continuing his good play on American soil, firing a 68 to move to 7-under, tied for ninth.
