It will take something bordering on a miracle for Tiger Woods to make the 2016 US Ryder Cup as a player, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be helping out the team.
On Thursday, Woods, Steve Stricker, and Jim Furyk were all named assistant captains to the squad by captain Davis Love III.
I will continue to do whatever I can to help win the Cup back,” Woods said in a statement. “Once I’m fully healthy, I’d like to try to make the team, too, but either way, I’m very excited to work with Davis, the other vice captains and the players to get a US victory.”
Being named assistant captain doesn’t rule out any of the three men also making the team. Furyk said if he makes the team as a player he will resign as a coach.
The US will host the Ryder Cup starting Sept. 30 2016 in Minnesota at Hazeltine National golf Club.
