Scotland’s Russell Knox picked one heck of a time to record his first European Tour title.
Knox’s second straight 68 got him to 20-under and assured him the victory at the WGC-HSBC Champions Sunday in Shanghai, earning him €1.264 million and 1.33 million points in the Race to Dubai Final Series.
He held off American Kevin Kisner, who could only manage a 70 to drop two strokes back. Englishmen Ross Fisher and Danny Willett wound up tied for third at 17-under each.
Willett made the biggest charge on the day, a resounding 62, the lowest score of the tournament. This allowed him to significantly close the gap on Rory McIlroy for the lead with two tournaments to go (see accompanying blog).
The victory came in Knox’s first action since the PGA Championship nearly three months ago, at which he finished a distant 90th.
