Unless you’re a meteorologist, there wasn’t a lot to be interested in at the Sanderson Farms Championship on Saturday.
Constant rain meant just three holes were completed on Saturday, with tons of players still not done with their second rounds. A full 50% of the 132-man field has yet to finish 36 holes, but tournament officials believe the full 72 is still a possibility if the skies clear on Sunday.
In a bold plan that might have some players contemplating how much they actually love golf, the plan is for those 76 players to start their second rounds at 7 a.m. Sunday. Once that round concludes, the cut will be figured and announced, and the third round will proceed immediately.
Tournament officials hope to also start the fourth round on Sunday, but concede it will have to be concluded on Monday. With that sort of schedule, there are several players who might reach 40 holes played on Sunday – those who have yet to start their second round, could play that 18, make the cut, play another 18, then start the fourth round as well.
