Australia’s Wade Ormsby and England’s Paul Lawrie each blazed to an opening-day 61 to lead the KLM Open by a stroke on Thursday.
Ormbsy was having a solid but not spectacular round until the final seven holes, in which he racked up six birdies after shooting a solid 33 on the front nine. He shot a staggering 28 on the back nine and called it the best round of his career.
Lawrie played earlier in the day with the wind at a minimum. It gusted at times in the middle of the day, but dropped back off as Lawrie took the field, allowing him the same stable conditions the Englishman had used earlier.
