Spain’s Eduardo De La Riva bogeyed the second hole, then set a blistering pace on the rest of the course at the Albatross Golf Resort in Prague, Czech Republic, on Thursday, tying for the lead after one day at the D+D REAL Czech Masters.
De La Riva is tied with Italy’s Renato Paratore at 7-under, with each man shooting a 65 on Thursday. De La Riva birdied No. 4, 6, 9, 10, 11, and 12, then finished with a long eagle on No. 18. He is seeking his second Tour win, following the 2012 Fred Olsen Challenge de Espana.
Paratore, who at No. 91 in the Race to Dubai standings, has some faint hope of making the field, recorded seven birdies, five of them on the back nine. Paratore has never won on the European Tour. His best finish so far this year was a tie for 13th at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic in February.
Four players, including England’s Matthew Fitzpatrick, are tied for third at 6-under, and another eight are 5-under including Sweden’s Kristoffer Broberg, who has been white hot of late, with finishes of sixth, 12th, 10th, 17th, and second among his last seven events.
