Runner-up Dustin Johnson Jumps to #3

The bitter taste of two missed putts aside, Dustin Johnson rose to No. 3 in the world in the latest Official World Golf Rankings released Monday following the US Open.

Johnson finished tied for second behind No. 2 Jordan Spieth, who slide Rory McIlroy’s points lead for the No. 1 ranking by a considerable amount.

Johnson was 19th to start the year after a considerable layoff for still-unknown reasons. He moved up from seventh a week ago.

Jason Day, who was the co-leader after two rounds despite a bout of vertigo, moved up from 10th to eighth, while Jim Furyk slid from third down to sixth.

Phil Mickelson, who was in contention after one day, but not thereafter, dropped to 20th. Meanwhile co-runner-up Louis Oosthuizen jumped from 27th to 16th, and started the year 45th.

Tiger Woods, who missed the cut, dropped out of the top 200 to 205th.
