The US Masters champion Jordan Spieth will be paired with Australia’s Jason Day and the UK’s Justin Rose in one of the biggest threesomes of the opening rounds of the US Open, with the three slated to tee off at 2:17 p.m. local time Thursday at Chambers Bay in Tacoma, Washington.
Phil Mickelson, the six-time runner-up at the US Open, will play alongside two-time Masters champ Bubba Watson and Angel Cabrera at 10:33 a.m. local time.
Martin Kaymer, kind of an afterthought given his lax performance since winning last year’s US Open, is paired with No. 1 Rory McIlroy and US Amateur champ Gunn Yang of Korea.
Three-time champion Tiger Woods, presently down to 195th in the world, will play with Rickie Fowler and Louis Oosthuizen starting at 2:28 p.m.
Other trios of note:
Front nine, 8:28 a.m. – Jim Furyk, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Colin Montgomerie.
Back nine, 8:17 a.m. – Dustin Johnson, Adam Scott, Sergio Garcia.
