Gomez Soars Into FedEx Cup Contention

Nothing like your first win on the PGA Tour to get you into consideration for the really big tournaments.

His win at the FedEx St. Jude’s Classic saw Fabian Gomez jump from 124th to 36th in the most recent FedEx Cup standings, taking him from the cusp of not qualifying to very much a factor in the chase.

Gomez, 36, has 793 points. There were few moves in the FedEx top 20 as most top players took the week off in preparation for the US Open.

Brooks Koepka, who led the tournament most of the weekend, moved up from 24th to 18th in the standings. Phil Mickelson, who also tied for third in his best showing of the year, moved up from 59th to 42nd.
