Lyoness Open Preview

The final European Tour event before the US Open kicks off Thursday as Mikael Lundberg seeks to defend his title at the Lyoness Open at the Diamond Country Club in Atzenbrugg, where he nicked Germany’s Bernd Wiesberger in a playoff last year.

The course was opened in 2000 and is a par-72, 7,417 yard monster. In the last decade, Vienna resident Miguel Angel Jimenez has helped remodel a number of the holes including its calling card, the par-4 No. 8.

Lundberg made a 40-foot birdie on the first playoff hole a year ago to take the title. Also in the field is 2009 winner Rafa Cabrera-Bello, who fied a 60 here that year on Sunday.
