If there was ever a day when Brendan Steele would have wished for the power to control the weather, Friday would have been that day.
Steele started his second round with four straight birdies, then had to let his hot hand down go to waste as rains wiped out the rest of his second round, and about half the field as well.
Steele is the leader on the board at 8-under after firing a 66 on Thursday, holding a 2-stroke lead over Patrick Reed, who was able to finish his second round with a second straight 67 to finish 6-under.
The only other player currently in the top five who completed his second round was England’s Luke Donald, who is 4-under after his second-day 67.
The projected cut is set at 4-over, which leaves a remarkable amount of talent on the wrong side, including Justin Rose, Rory McIlroy, Ernie Els, Graeme McDowell, Billy Horschel, and defending champion Russell Henley.
