Joburg Open Preview

While the bigger names might be across the pond this week for the Honda Classic, there’s plenty at stake at the Joburg Open in South Africa, starting Thursday at the Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club.

For England’s Andy Sullivan, a win would mean exemptions to the majors and WGC events for the rest of the year, as it would see him crack the top 50 in the Official World Golf Rankings.

Sullivan is currently ranked 73rd in the world and is 15th in the Race to Dubai standings.

One of his top competitors this weekend may be India’s SSP Chawrasia, who is likely playing again so quickly to get the bad taste of last week’s Hero Indian Open out of his mouth.

Chawrasia led the tournament after 18, 36, and 54 holes, but fell apart on Sunday and lost a playoff to countryman Anirban Lahiri
