The end of the 2015 FedExCup race should have a much more competitive flourish after the PGA Tour announced changes to the points system on Thursday.
Points won in the four post-season tournaments will be factored at a 4x rate instead of a 5x rate compared to the regular season starting next year. The tour hopes this will keep more players alive in the final tournament of the year, and reduce the odds that someone has to win at least one tournament to have a shot of winning the whole title.
All 30 players who qualify for the Tour Championship will have a mathematical chance at the $10 million bonus, while the top five players will need to win the Championship to win the FedEx Cup.
Also leaving the system is the 54-hole cut.
Billy Horschel won last year’s FedExCup title by winning the final two events of the four-week playoff.
