Seventeen of the top 60 players int he world will highlight the field at the Turkish Airlines Open beginning Thursday in Istanbul, the third leg of the Race to Dubai’s Final Series.
Rory McIlroy is a no-show again, but heavyweights Sergio Garcia, Henrik Stenson and Martin Kaymer are all on hand, along with Marcel Siem, the winner of the Race’s first leg two weeks ago.
Four wild cards handed out by the Turkish Golf Federation mean John Daly, David Lynn, Darren Clarke, and Colin Montgomerie will also be on hand. For Montgomerie, it’s his 600th professional golf tournament and is being played at a course that bears his name – the Montgomerie Maxx Royal.
Three Turkish players also received wild cards.
The best of the best on the Euro Tour will get the late draws in the first round, with Stenson, Kaymer and France’s Victor Dubuission encompassing the final trio. Siem is paired with Garcia and Jamie Donaldson, currently No. 2 in the Race to Dubai rankings, teeing off at 9:45 a.m. local time Thursday.
The course is 6,486 meters (7,093 yards) in length with a par 72, sitting on the coast of the Turkish Mediterranean Sea.
