A week before they battle the best of the US, four members of Europe’s Ryder Cup squad will compete against one another at the ISPS Handa Wales Open
Wales’ own Jamie Donaldson, along with Thomas Bjorn of Denmark, the UK’s Lee Westwood, and Stephen Gallacher, who will likely be keeping a close eye on the nearest TV as his homeland of Scotland votes whether or not to leave the UK as an independent country on Thursday.
The defending champion at Wales is France’s Gregory Bourdy, who won that crown with three straight birdies, including a 30-footer on No. 18. Paul Casey, who won last week’s KLM Open, is also on hand at The Celtic Manor Resort.
Casey, Donaldson and Westwood are paired together with a 8:15 a.m. tee time, with Bjorn and Gallacher joining Thongchai Jaidee on course at 12:40 p.m.
The field will play on the Twenty Ten course, so called because it was designed specifically for the 2010 Ryder Cup. it is a 7,352 yard par 71 course.
