The hoped-for Tiger Woods explosion never came on Saturday. Instead Luke List kept playing smart confident golf to lead the Honda Classic through three rounds.
List fired a 4-under 66 to take the lead. He’ll need at least that good a score to win the tournament. Wily Tour veteran Webb Simpson and 2017 PGA Player of the Year Justin Thomas are each a single stroke back at 6-under.
It was List’s second straight 66 and only a bogey on 17 kept him turning in a perfect card.
Thomas had the low round of the day with a 65, taking the back nine with a 4-under 31.
Tommy Fleetwood, the reigning Race to Dubai Champion, and Day 3 co-leader Jamie Lovemark, are tied for fourth at 5-under.
Alex Noren, who shot a 65 in the opening round, put up another on Saturday to get back into contention. Noren eagled No. 18 to finish with a flourish.
The much-hyped third round for Tiger Woods never materialised, even though he shot his best round of the weekend, a 1-under 69 that has him at even par and tied for 11th. He birdied No. 18 for a second straight day to get himself to even par for the tournament seven shots behind List.
