Kevin Streelman isn’t the most popular golfer in the world, but he wasn’t prepared to be quite overshadowed in his pro-am partnership on Thursday at Pebble Beach.
Despite being dwarfed in size and fan base by Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, Streelman was one of the best two golfers in the tournament on Thursday, shooting a 7-under to tie for the lead.
Right there with him is Beau Hossler, who made a name for himself here in 2012 as a 17-year-old amateur.
Streelman was steady Eddie throughout the round, knocking in three birdies on the front nine and four more on the back without a single bogey.
Hossler also played a bogey-free round, knocking home five birdies on the back nine.
Matt Kuchar is tied for third and world No. 1 Dustin Johnson is tied for sixth. Johnson is playing with his father-in-law NHL legend Wayne Gretzky.
