Patton Kizzrie continued his blazing hot start to the 2017-2018 PGA season, outdueling top 10 player Rickie Fowler to win the OHL Classic by one stroke in Playa del Carmen, Mexico on Sunday.
Both men along with six others had to play all 36 holes of the third and fourth rounds on Sunday due to heavy rains.
“It was pretty nerve-racking but I felt good,” Kizzire said. Fowler birdied 16 and 17 to make it close, but a long birdie putt on No. 18 fell short. Despite the loss, Fowler has now topped $30 million in career earnings.
The win came in Kizzrie’s 63rd career start.
“I’ve been in tough spots before and I drew from all my experiences,” he said. “It means a lot. I‘m pretty excited right now, pretty emotional and I was glad to get it done. Rickie made me work hard.”
“I just want to keep working hard and win bigger and bigger and better things. The tournament this week was awesome and I was glad to get my first win here.”
