Justin Thomas Wins Inaugural CJ Cup

Justin Thomas racked up his sixth title in the past 13 months, defeating Marc Leishman on the second hole of a playoff to win the CJ Cup and Nine Bridges in Jeju, Korea on Sunday.

Thomas birdied the second extra hole after Leishman bogeyed in to wrap up his fifth title of this calendar year. The two players finished tied at 9-under in the regular 72 holes in the first PGA event ever in Korea.

Thomas looked in trouble when he dropped two shots on a double bogey on No. 3. But he rallied back with birdies on 9, 10, and 11 before bogeying 13. He shot a final-round 72 to allow Leishman to tie for the playoff.

In the end, Thomas won 500 FedEx Cup points and $1.665 million.

Leishman looked like he wouldn’t be competing for anything when he went from 2-under through 2 holes to 1-over through eight. But he turned things around with a birdie on 9, and three more on 12, 14 and 18.

Cameron Smith missed making it a three-way playoff by one stroke. He shot a 70 on Sunday but could not get a birdie out of his last six holes.

Korea’s Whee Kim finished fourth at 6-under.
