Justin Rose could make it back-to-back victories for Queen and Country for the first time in 27 years. Sergio Garcia is looking to shake a career-long monkey off of his back.
Garcia has never won a Major. Rose won the 2013 US Open and the 2016 Olympic Gold Medal. Both men are at 6-under, with a 1-shot lead over Rickie Fowler, also in pursuit of his first Major.
All three men would never admit it, but the one they fear the most – Jordan Spieth. At one point 10 strokes the lead after his disastrous quadruple-bogey on Thursday, Spieth now is tied for fourth with Ryan Moore and Charley Hoffman, two strokes off the lead at 4-under.
After an opening round 75, Spieth has shot 7-under. Another former No. 1, Adam Scott is alone in seventh at 3-uner.
Another former winner, Charl Schwartzel is 2-under. Day 2 co-leader Thomas Pieters dropped back to 1-under after shooting a 75 on Sunday, and is tied for ninth with Lee Westwood.
Former champions Danny Willett and Bubba Watson were among those missing the cut.
Scott and Schwartzel begin play at 2:15 p.m., followed by Moore and Hoffman at 2:25 p.m., Fowler and Spieth at 2:35 p.m., and Rose and Garcia at 2:45 p.m.
