India’s SSP Chawrasia won his fourth European Tour title on his home turf Sunday, cruising to the title by seven strokes as he finished 10-under par at the Hero Indian Open.
I am very happy. It is such a tough course, I think I got lucky this week,” Chawrasia said.
“It was only after I drove from the 18th tee I felt now I will win this one. All week, I just tried to keep it straight and putt well. I’m glad my prediction of 10-under came true”
The 38-year-old is second-to-last in driving distance on the European Tour but his short game and knowledge of the course more than made up for it. Only six players besides Chawrasia finished under par for the tournament.
Malaysia’s Gavin Kyle Green finished at 3-under. He was only three strokes behind after three rounds thanks to his Saturday 65, but lost four strokes Sunday as he shot 3-over to Charwrasia’a 1-under.
It’s the widest margin of victory by Chawrasia in his career on the European Tour. He has won four times there, six times on the Asian Tour, and 10 times on the Indian Tour.
