The preview picture for the FedEx Cup is becoming more clear as the regular season on the PGA Tour winds down.
There are five players who have separated themselves from the pack, having earned at least 1,950 points so far. They are:
- Jason Day 2,375
- Dustin Johnson 2,701
- Adam Scott 2,063
- Russell Knox 2,001
- Jordan Spieth 1,965
After Spieth, there’s a 410-point dip down to sixth-place Brandt Snedeker. A good 34 players have at least 1,000 points. The top 125 will qualify for the series of post-season tournaments. South Korea’s Whee Kim is currently No. 125 thanks to his third-place finish at the John Deere Classic on Sunday.
Playing in the Summer Olympics allowed Henrik Stenson and Justin Rose to make moves in the Top 10 this week in the Official World Golf Rankings. Silver medalist Stenson moved from fifth to fourth, knocking Rory McIlroy down a spot. Gold medalist Rose leaped from 12th up to ninth, knocking Danny Willett and Branden Grace out of the top 10 altogether.
Jason Day remained No. 1 for a 21st straight week and 25th overall. He’s just one spot behind Jordan Spieth for 10th in all-time weeks at No. 1.
Bronze medalist Matt Kuchar jumped from 20th to 15th. Meanwhile, John Deer Classic winner Ryan Moore climbed from 59th to 50th.
