Rory McIlroy racked up 4.727 million Race to Dubai points in the final standings released Monday, a truly remarkable total considering he played just 12 events on the qualifying tournament schedule this year.
He wound up outdistancing second-place Danny Willett by more than 1 million points. Willett, who finished tied for fourth at the DP World Championship on Sunday, had 3.670 million points in 23 events.
That means McIlroy averaged just under 394,000 points per event while Willett averaged around 160,000. Justin Rose, who finished fourth, and Louis Oosthuizen, who took sixth in the final standings, were the only other players to average more than 200,000 points per event.
