It’s more than just the best of the European Tour on hand at The WGC-HSBC Champions beginning Thursday in Shanghai, China; US players Jordan Spieth, Bubba Watson, Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, and Rickie Fowler are also on hand for the second event of The Final Series.
US players have taken the last two titles here, Watson in 2014 and Johnson the year before that. The field is also thick with former No. 1 players – Spieth, Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood, Luke Donald, Adam Scott, and Martin Kaymer.
The Sheshan International Golf Course plays host to the tournament, with it 7,266-yard, par-72 course. Johnson set the course record here in 2013 with a 24-under 264. He’ll tee off with Fowler and McIlroy, who is trying to recover from a bout of food poisoning, on the final trio of the day Thursday.
The other power trio of the day will feature FedEx Cup champion Spieth, two-time Masters winner Watson, who will celebrate his 37th birthday on Thursday, and Stenson, two-time defending champion of the Race to Dubai crown.
