Belgium’s Thomas Pieters followed up his Saturday 62 with an impressive 65 on Sunday to win the KLM Open with a 19-under 261, his second straight win after taking the D+D REAL Czech Masters on August 30.
Those are the first two European Tour victories of Pieters’ career and have propelled the Belgian up to 28th in the Race to Dubai standings.
He edged out Spain’s Eduardo De La Riva and England’s Lee Slattery by a single stroke. Six players finished within three strokes of the lead.
De La Riva fired a final-round 63 to make his push, while Slattery, the Day 3 leader, slipped back to a 68.
Perhaps the “luckiest” competitor in the field was Norway’s Morten Orum Madsen, who used a tie for fifth at 16-under to rise to No. 60 in the Race to Dubai standings.
