Justin Rose fired a 7-under 63, tying for the best round of the day, to shoot into a first-place tie with Jim Furyk at 9-under at the conclusion of 54 holes Saturday at the WGC-Bridgestone in Akron, Ohio.
Rose, the 2013 US Open champion, jumped from eighth into a share of the lead by carding seven birdies without a single bogey on the round, including birdies on four of his final six holes.
After back-to-back 66s on Thursday and Friday, Furyk struggled with bogeys on 7 and 12 and carded a 69 to tie Rose at 9-under, losing his four-stroke lead.
Ireland’s Shane Lowry is holding steady in third at 7-under after a 3-under 67.
Australia’s Steven Bowditch also shot a 7-under 63 to jump from 34th to a tie for fourth with Ian Poulter, Hernik Stenson, and Bubba Watson at 5-under.
