His victory Sunday at the Omega European Masters has Danny Willett within striking distance of taking over the Race to Dubai lead from injured Rory McIlroy.
Willett has 2,548,439 points, second to McIlory’s 2,875,645. Louis Oosthuizen, a runner-up at The Open Championship two weeks ago, is less than 100,000 points behind Willett in third.
Barring a hot streak by another player or a PGA Championship win by someone else already in the Race to Dubai Top 10, Willett or Oosthuizen will likely be the top seed in the end-of-year series of tournaments, as Oosthuizen is nearly 1 million points ahead of the man in fourth place, Bernd Wiesberger.
Matthew Fitzpatrick, who finished second behind Willett in Switzerland on Sunday moved into the Top 60 of the Race standings and is No. 40 with 523,690 points.
