World No. 2 Jordan Spieth, now the leading favorite to win next week’s Open Championship with Rory McIlroy sidelined, returns to the home of his first win this week as the headliner of the John Deere Classic.
Speith recorded his first PGA win here in 2013 with a 19-under 265. Last year, Brian Harman took the crown at 22-under.
Also on hand is Steve Stricker, a three-time winner here, and the course record-holder with his outlandish 26-under 258 in 2010.
Spieth has receive some criticism with not traveling across the pond to the UK to take part in the Scottish Open, the field of which has produced the last four Open Championship winners.
Spieth tees off at 1 p.m. with Harman and last week’s Greenbrier Classic winner Danny Lee.
