After doing next to nothing at the US Open last week, Bubba Watson race to the top of the leader board after the first round of the Travelers Championship Thursday outside of Hartford.
Suffering just one bogey among nine birdies, Watson dazzled with a 62 to take a two-stroke lead at the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell. Watson missed the cut at last week’s US Open.
His only bogey came on No. 16, and was surrounded by four birdies. He holds a 2-stroke lead over a five-way tie for second at 6-under that includes Keegan Bradley and Harris English.
Also in that mix is 24-year-old Korean Seung-Yul Noh, who birdied his first four holes in a row.
Forty-nine players are within five strokes of the lead, with a staggering 93 men at least one stroke under par on the friendly course, a major change from last week’s controversial Chambers Bay course for the US Open.
