For the first time in his professional career Tiger Woods is no longer the highest paid athlete golf. In Forbes’ annual highest-paid athletes list Phil Mickelson took the crown as the highest paid in golf.
Mickelson ranked eighth in the overall list earning $50.8 million in salaries, endorsements and bonuses between June 1, 2014 and June 1, 2015. Woods was only $200,000 behind Mickelson having racked in $50.6 million in the year, and sits 9th on the overall list. The major difference between the two was on course earnings where Phil earned $2.2million extra than the then injured Tiger Woods.
Just behind Tiger and Phil sits Rory Mcllroy whose $48.3 million placed him 12th on the list, with $32 million coming from off course endorsements.
Other golfers on the list were Justin Rose who earned $20.2 million and sits at No.82. Masters champion Jordan Spieth made $19.8 million and sits 85th. The final golfer in the top-100 was FedEx Cup Champion Billy Horschel who took home $19 million last year, and placed no.96 on the list.
Boxer Floyd Mayweather topped the list with $300 million, which was nearly double what No.2 Manny Pacquiao earned with $160 Million. Mayweather’s earnings also doubles the previous record set by Tiger Woods in 2007-08 at $115 million.
