Colin Montgomerie could get used to this Champions Tour.
The 51-year-old Scottish great fired an 8-under 280 to win his third Champions Tour in 10 appearances, including three of the last six, repeating as champion at the Senior PGA Championship at the Pete Dye Course at French Lick Resort.
Montgomerie won 31 European Tour titles in his career, but never a Major in 71 attempts.
Montgomerie’s closing 3-under 69, his second in three days, provided the final margin of victory of four strokes over Mexico’s Esteban Toledo. Montgomerie actually bogeyed two of the final four holes or it would have been a complete runaway.
Only five players finished under par for the weekend, and only Brian Henninger shot better than a 68 in any one round, firing a second-day 67 and ending up tied for fourth at 2-under.
