The Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial plays host to the PGA TOUR this week, as the Lone Star State welcomes back Jordan Spieth who’s returning to play for the first time since winning The Masters. A year ago saw then World No.1 Adam Scott defeat Jason Dufner in a thrilling playoff.
Of the 122 players total, 69 have won a PGA TOUR event, 14 have won a Major, and combined they have 286 Tour wins.
Chris Kirk is having a solid PGA TOUR season, having recorded 2 top-10 finishes including a T-8th finish at the Valero Texas Open. In his most recent start, Kirk finished T-13th at The Players Championship. At last year’s Crowne Plaza Invitational Kirk finished a very respectable T-14th, with his best finish coming in 2012 finishing T-5th. Currently ranked No.23 in the world, Kirk is good value at 30/1 to capture his 3nd PGA TOUR title.
Ryan Palmer enters this week with a great advantage of being a member of Colonial Country Club, an advantage that saw him finish T-5th at last year’s Invitational. Palmer is having a good season, with 3 top-10 finishes, including a T-2nd finish a Waste Management Open. Palmer ranks 9th on the PGA TOUR for total putting, and 3rd for driving accuracy. Currently ranked 28th in the World, Palmer is also paying 28/1 as well!
Adam Scott will be hoping that a return to a familiar, winning place will help him find his groove again. Having won this event a year ago, Scott has not won since and has slid down the World Rankings to No.11. This season Scott’s only top 10 finish came at WGC Cadillac Championship, finishing T-4th. Scott’s tee-to-green game hasn’t let up this year, ranking 5th on tour. However he ranks 196th for strokes gained putting, which has limited his top performances. If Scott can find his grove with the putter this week he is paying fantastic odds at 25/1.
Like Jordan Spieth, Texan Jimmy Walker will be a hugely popular figure this week. Walker won his last start in the Lone State at the Valero Texas Open. The win was his 2nd PGA TOUR win of the season, having won the Sony Open back in January. At last year’s Crown Plaza Invitational, Walker finished T-10th. Walker leads the PGA TOUR in strokes gained putting and 4th in scoring average, all part of the reason he sits 2nd in FedEx Cup! Currently ranked No.12 in the world, Walker is decent value at 18/1 to capture his 3nd PGA TOUR title of the season.
