UK’s Howell Among Early Leaders at Shanghai

After finishing fourth at last week’s Shenzhen Open, the UK’s David Howell is off to another hot start with a 4-under 68 to share the early lead at the Volvo China Open on Thursday.

Howell also finished second this year at Johannesburg.

“I drove the ball beautifully today, really found my rhythm on the range and took it out onto the course so I kept the ball in play well and did a lot of things right,” Howell said.
Ranked 37th in the Race to Dubai standings, Howell is tied for first with Wales’ Bradley Dredge and Australia’s Michael Hendry.
The tough course netted only 24 rounds under par on day one, but among them were seven players ranked in the Race to Dubai’s top 60.
The home country’s best rounds were provided by Hao-tong Li and Shao-cai He, who each shot a 1-under 71.
