Early April means one thing to golf fans, its Master Week!! The majestic setting of Augusta National plays host to the season’s first major, and it looks set to be a classic. This week is an opportunity for Rory McIlroy to capture his career grand slam, and for the likes of Rickie Fowler, Jordan Spieth and Jason Day to capture their first Major Championship. Last year saw Bubba Watson capture his 2nd green jacket ahead of Masters Rookie Jordan Spieth. We look at who we think will be slipping on that Green Jacket come Sunday.
Jason Day goes into the season’s first major on the back of great early season form. Day has been inside the top-10 in 6 starts including a win at the Farmers Open back in February. In previous Masters, Day had his best finish in 2013 finishing solo 3rd behind eventual winner and fellow countryman Adam Scott. Day ranks 1st in all-around ranking on the PGA TOUR this season, which will be very important at Augusta National. Currently ranked No.5 in the world, Day is decent value at 12/1.
Matt Kuchar is no stranger to strong play at Augusta National, having been inside the top-8 on his last 3 starts. Kuchar had a strong start to 2015 finishing T-2 at the Humana, but as of late has tailed of slightly. We expect Kuchar to be fully raring to go come Thursday, and get his hands on that first major championship. Kuchar is paying good odds at 33/1 to be champion come Sunday.
Jordan Spieth heads into the week the hottest golfer on the planet, having been in the top-2 in each of his last 3 starts including a win at the Valspar Championship. Last year was Spieth’s first Masters, and boy did he deliver finishing 2nd behind runaway leader Bubba Watson. Spieth has the all-around game for Augusta, ranking 4th on Tour for tee-to-green, and 5th for stokes gained putting. Spieth enters the week 2nd favourite at 10/1 behind World No.1 Rory McIlroy.
Jimmy Walker is having yet another sensational year on the PGA TOUR, having already won twice and recording 5 top-10 finishes in 10 starts. Like Spieth, Walker played his first Masters last year and will use the experience of his T-8th going into this week. Walker will also have the benefit of being one of the better putters on tour, ranking 3rd on strokes gained putting. Currently ranked No.10 in the world, Walker is good value at 22/1 to slip on his first green jacket.
Other top tips for this week would be Tiger Woods to be inside the top-10 which currently paying 5/1. Gone are the days where he would be 5/1 to be winner! We also like Jamie Donaldson to finish inside the top-20, currently paying 7/2.
