Inclement Weather Cancels Madeira Open

Four days of rain, wind, and fog spelled doom for the Madeira Open, which was officially canceled on Monday, with all scores ruled null and void.

It’s the second year in a row that weather has affected the tournament. It was cut down to 36 holes in 2014.

It is just the third event in European Tour history to be subject to a cancellation, after the Compaq European Grand Prix in 1998 – due to adverse weather – and the 2001 WGC -American Express Championship, which was cancelled in the wake of the terrorist attacks in the USA on September 11 .
