Former PGA Tour pro Dan Olsen has retracted his statements saying that Tiger Woods was suspended from the tour for failing a drug test, among other rumors.
Both Woods and PGA Tour officials denied that Woods has been given a one-month suspension for a failed drug test. Woods released a statement in February detailing that he was sitting out of events until his game was up to his own professional standards.
The rumor started withOlsen, who said on a Michigan sports radio talk show that a tour-exempt player had told him that Woods “is on a month’s suspsension … it’s kind of a strong witness. It’s a credible person who is telling me this.”
Olsen went on to say that Woods’ infamy would only grow and that “They’re not even going to remember the women” – a reference to Woods’ 2009 infidelity scandal. The lengthy interview also sees Olsen accuse Woods of using an illegal ball earlieri n his career.
Woods’ agent Mark Steinberg met the charges head on.
“These claims are absolutely, unequivocally and completely false,” Steinberg said in a statement. “They are unsourced, unverified and completely ridiculous. The PGA Tour has confirmed that there is no truth to these claims.”
The PGA, which seldom comments on rumors, also had weighed in heavily.
“There is no truth whatsoever to these claims. We categorically deny these allegations.”
