In less than a month, Anirban Lahiri has gone from “Who?” to “Wow!” on the European Tour.
By rallying to win the Hero Indian Open over countryman SSP Chawrasia on Sunday, Lahiri rose to No. 2 in the current Race to Dubai standings with 687,444 points in four tournaments played.
He trails only England’s Danny Willett, who has tallied 971,413 points in five tournaments.
The Race to Dubai counts prize money won on the tour as well as selected PGA and WGC events throughout the season, changing each Euro won into a point.
The top 60 players at the end of the season qualify for a series of elite tournaments that culminate in a title tournament in Dubai with the prize money escalating each week.
World No. 1 Rory McIlroy, who won the Race to Dubai a year ago, is No. 5 in the current standings, despite having only played two tournaments on Tour so far this year.
SSP Chawrasia, who finished second behind Lahiri in the Hero Indian Open playoff, moved up to 25th in the Dubai standings, with 201,036 points.
