Expert Picks: Northern Trust Open

The City of Angels plays host to the PGA TOUR this week, for the Northern Trust open at the majestic Riviera Country Club. Of the 144 players total, 80 have won a PGA TOUR event, 16 have won a Major, and combined they have 349 Tour wins.

Bubba Watson is back to defend his title this week, a tournament that saw the first of his 3 titles last year.

Sergio Garcia is making his 2015 PGA TOUR debut this week, having spent the first few weeks of the year playing on the European Tour’s Middle Eastern swing. The world number 7 didn’t flourish in those events, with T46th his best result. Garcia last played the Northern Trust open back in 2013, finishing T13th. Garcia, without a win on the PGA TOUR since 2012 is currently offering great odds at 25/1.

Charl Schwartzel like Garcia is making his 2015 PGA TOUR debut, having been busy with European Tour duties. Schwartzel’s finished T2nd at the South African Open, and backed that up with a top-10 finish at Aby Dhabi HSBC Championship. At 33/1 Schwartzel is fantastic value, for a player in the world’s top 30.

Charlie Beljan isn’t a household name, but he shouldn’t be ignored this week. Beljan enters the week on the back of a 3rd place finish at the AT&T Pebble Beach. At last year’s Northern Trust open, Beljan finished T12th, and back in 2013 he lost in a playoff. At 70/1 he offers fantastic value for a player with a proven track record around this track.

Harris English is having a fantastic start to the 2015 PGA TOUR season, having recorded 2 top-3 finishes in 8 starts, included 2nd at the Farmers Open having lost out in a playoff to Jason Day. At last year’s Northern Trust open, English finished T10th. Currently ranked No.57 in the world, English is 22/1 to become a champion come Sunday.
