J.B. Holmes made up five strokes on leader Harris English to tie for the tournament lead after 54 holes of the Farmers Insurance Open on Saturday.
English was hurt by a double bogey 6 on No. 4 and wound up with a 1-over 73 while Holmes fired a 68 to climb to 9-under for the tournament.
Even with the hot hand, it’s still anyone’s tournament to win as 10 players are within two strokes of the lead entering Sunday. Holmes might have taken the lead and run away with it, but his seven-birdie day was tempered by three bogeys, two in the last four holes.
FedEx Cup leader Jimmy Walker is among those tied for third at a stroke back after firing a 2-under 70.
