Everyone was looking at Phil, or Dufner, or Keegan, or Billy, or Patrick.
They all forgot about Michael Putnam until he had run right by them. Putnam fired a9-under 63 thanks to a stretch of nine birdies in 11 holes to lead the Humana Challenge by one.
The streak included six straight between No. 12 and 17.
The hot round gave him a 1-stroke lead over five other players, including Italy’s Francesco Molinari, skipping the Qatar Masters in favor of the American course.
Molinari blazed to a 3-under start through three holes with a trio of birdies, and book-ended his round with two more on 17 and 18.
