American golfer Dustin Johnson, invisible except in paparazzi pictures for the last five months, granted his first interview in that time span last week.
Talking to Sports Illustrated, with his agent, public relations manager, and father-in-law, whose name happens to be Wayne Gretzky, by his side, Johnson said he has done a lot of maturing and simplifying in recent months.
“Over these past four or five months I’ve really grown up,” he said, “I am starting to become the person I want my kids to look up to.”
Johnson’s wife Paulina Gretzky is pregnant with the couple’s first child, and he will return to the PGA after she delivers, likely in the next couple of weeks.
Johnson left the tour mysteriously last August amid rumors of a failed drug test, or perhaps a suspension for an affair with another player’s wife.
Johnson has denied all rumors and said he does not have any sort of substance abuse problem.
