McIlroy Snubbed at BBC Awards

Professional golf’s drought continues at the BBC Awards.

Rory McIlroy, who won both the Open Championship and the PGA Championship, along with the Race to Dubai in 2014, did not win the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year Award,as voted on by sporting fans throughout the UK.

Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton took home the award, even though McIlroy had been installed at a 6:1 favorite earlier in the proceedings.

Even Hamilton expressed shock at the result as he took the stage to accept the trophy.

“I really wasn’t expecting it because, dude, (McIlroy), you had such an incredible year.”

The silver lining for the golf world came from Ryder Cup leader Paul McGinley, who won the BBC Coach of the Year trophy.
