Adam Scott doesn’t just want to make up for his gaffe at last year’s Australian Open, he wants to do it while paired with the best player in the world.
While in China last week for the HSBC-WGC Champions, Scott said he wants to be paired with No. 1 Rory McIlroy for at least the first two days of the upcoming Australian Open.
Last year, attempting to win the Australian Triple Crown, Scott missed the green on his second shot on No. 18 while leading McIlroy by a stroke. He took a bogey while McIlroy drilled a birdie from 15 feet out to win the tournament.
“I believe the organizers should take advantage and put Rory and myself together because it does happen occasionally at US Opens where they pair the players according to their rankings,” Scott said. “It’s not often we have the world No. 1 and 2 ranked players in the same tournament in Australia, and it would be fun to do, and I would certainly do that.”
